The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is a list of remarkable constructions that were known in the Mediterranean world in classical antiquity. The most widely-accepted list of these Wonders was compiled by Antipater of Sidon, a Greek poet, in 140 BC. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World are: the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes, and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. These structures symbolized the power, ingenuity, and wealth of the civilizations that built them, and they were considered the greatest architectural and engineering marvels of their time.
